You may remember some news articles from a few months back, where businesses were using high frequency sounds to discourage loitering by teens. Now, the teens can use the same noise to ring on their cell phones, so only they can hear their incoming calls. Check out the "Mosquito Ringtones." You can get one of these ringtones and a free hearing test (sort of)! My Result: You are in your twenties | You can still hear reasonably well and you can play this without my old fart colleagues hearing it which makes you feel kinda good. The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 15.8kHz | | Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear! |
Unfortunately, I'm not in my twenties, but apparently my ears are! |

. . . and it turns out their purchasing habits are different. Android users and iPhone users tend to behave differently in how they purchase and use their apps. iPhone users are more willing to pay for apps, while android users prefer the free apps. I would pretty much agree with the analysis, by mashable (here). Apple users have been taught from their very first click that extras cost money. Android appeals to the frugal geek. This is what happens when you start to think that anything is possible! A dual-screen laptop is about to hit the market. What I like about this is the thought process that goes into the design. Here we have a problem: Laptops have only so much possiblity for their screen size. They are stuck to their physical limitations. Then a designer comes along and says, unless we do this! It is quite an ingenious solution. |

With our new found mobility comes the problems of overuse or misuse. Particularly true in the case of texting and cellphone use while driving. Now this: 'Firms Racing to End Texting and Driving' From the Wall Street Journal shows the promise of a simple solution. Although I would recommend them to tread carefully. In particular, I remember being stuck in traffic for nearly three hours in the dead of winter. If this technology limited my ability to use the phone, those three hours would have passed very slowly! |
